Location: On High Street over the road from the Arndale Centre multi storey car park.

The hanging baskets have grown a bit since the first picture was taken. Plus, the upstairs is up for rent. That could save a bit of walking.

The Hogshead

Don't confuse the Hoshead with the Hogshead on Deansgate, near the junction with Bridge Street

We have visited here before at the start of a stag party. The landlord was kind enough to let us leave the ball and chain hidden behind the bar until we went back that evening. The ball and chain can be seen on the stag party page.
When we had the do they used to do jugs of beer. It saves having to go back to the bar as often.

They have Folk nights and Rockabilly nights according to the signs outside.

Firstly the beer. They are not doing the jugs of beer anymore. There were a couple of beers and ciders available straight from the barrel on taps. The beers were Black Cat and Pendle Witch. The cask beers were Landlord, Boddingtons, Caledonian 80/s (£1.94) and something like Lincolnshire Lamb. Heineken (£1.50) and Stella lagers were also available. Plus others but we didn't make notes on them. They also do food.
They had a Try & Buy offer where you could try a small sample of beer before you actually bought it.
The area towards the front entrance was designated a no smoking area. Something we haven't seen very often. Something else not seen very often was a bar billiards game.
The music was enjoyable playing music by artists such as Chris Rear, Phil Collins, Fleetwood Mac, Bangles, Roxy Music..... We stayed for quite a while. The pub is broken up by large supporting pillars and wood panelling into a number of smaller areas with plenty of seating. Its quite basically furnished with black wood and stone flooring.

We have had a look at the website www.hogshead.co.uk. All it says at the moment is 'This site is under redevelopment' on a yellow background. You would think they would have left the old site available with the message until the new one was ready.
Finally, it is rumoured that they will be renaming the pub soon. It is assumed that the web site will also change.
