Photographs
of the Pink Pylon.
This is
ZP 226, not the usual grey coloured pylon.
It is located just off the A680 on the road leading NW out of Rochdale.
The reason for the pylon being pink has now been established.

Many emails have been received over
the last few months suggesting why the pylon is pink.
The most common suggestions are :-
The pylon is
being repainted and pink metal primer has been used instead of the usual
red as seen on such bridges as The Golden Gate suspension bridge or the
Forth Road bridge, or,
green in Newcastle.
People
often think the photographs are faked. Easily done with any graphics package,
but they are genuine.
They do not stand out as much on the skyline if they
are pink.
After contacting The National Grid Company plc it has been revealed
that ZP226 was used in the making of the film Among Giants. It
was written by screenwriter Simon Beaufoy who wrote "The Full Monty"
and stars Pete Postlethwaite and Rachel Griffiths.
The paint used will naturally wash off - so the tower will resort to its
original colour.
When the film was made back in 1998 an article was published in the Rochdale
Observer - this is still to be investigated
